Album review
Graduation

Kanye West
Graduation
Released 2007
Label:Rock-A-Fella, Island Def Jam
This one of a kind album only made by unique rappers like Kanye West was yet again another success. Especially when competing against 50 Cents newest album, Curtis, it is very hard to get a good review. But with Kanye's work it seems like his probability of getting a good review is much higher than the other artists.
When starting off with the first song in the track called "Good Morning" was quite the good choice as if to start off a new day or the start of the album. It takes on a slow beat to sort of warm up the listener and make them bob their head a little but the moment that next song comes up it takes on a much faster tempo. With the next couple of songs he uses lyrics as part of the beats to his song. A good example would be like "Stronger" where it uses the lyrics "Work it, make it, do it, Makes us harder, better, faster, STRONGER!" throughout the whole song and makes sort of a techno beat.
Kanye is also known for using different artists to do his chorus, which he can use very effectively and makes it stand out more then the actual lyrics. This of course is no downfall for the genius here but actually goes for the direct point of the whole song, but still it will make the listener want to hear the lyrics.
But for every album there is always that one wild card and unfortunately there is one in this album. The song Barry Bonds just doesn't seem to be up to par with the rest of the songs. It's beat felt a little uncomfortable and it seemed like the lyrics were forced into the beat. Every song must a good feel to it and this one definitely did not had that good feeling.

Required Listening Part 2

The first song i choose for the Required Listening 2 is "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" by The Rolling Stones because this song is a real classic and i sometimes sing it in my head when i'm pissed or i can't get satisfaction with the service that i'm provided with at like a restaurant or a hotel. I think the tempo of the song is really exhilarating and pumps up the people who are listening to the song and the tambourine is a nice touch to the song, as i'm sure it wasn't in a lot of other rock and roll songs.

The Second Song i choose is "Where Have All The flowers gone"by Peter Paul & Mary. The Reason i chose this one was because of how....not so good it was. It Seemed like the whole song was the chorus and not really a song so it was very repetitive and got a little annoying. Maybe because it was not my style maybe not, i could probably take a guess that these artists were under the influence when they wrote the song. I'm not trying to be prejudice but the fact that they wrote it in the era where hippies began to grow in big numbers just leads me to that. Although i do like the guitar a lot in the song because it reminds me of how they play with the Mariachi Bands in Mexico.

The last song i choose is "I'm Henry the VIII I am" because his voice and his lyrics go very well together and makes the song so much more enjoyable. EVEN though it's almost the same thing as "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" because it repeats the same thing over again and again the ingenious of it's lyrics completely distract the listener from realizing whats going on. When you think that he says Henry the VIII, he is talking about being a king since a lot of the kings and queens during the medieval time had the same name. Really what he is talking about is that he's the 8th Henry that the girl has married.

Required Listening Part 1

Well the first song i choose is "At the Hop" by Danny and the Juniors which is a (me making an educated guess) a that it is a early form of Rock and Roll. My Reaction to this song was that it sounded a lot like the modern songs i have heard before and it was a really catchy song. If they would have put like a snare in the song (which i'm sure they couldn't so back then) it would have blended in with the modern songs. I did a little research and found out that it was initially named "Do the Bop" but was later changed to "At the Hop". It was the only hit single that Danny and the Junoirs made and it made

The Second song i choose is "Tutti Frutti" by Pat Boone which was re-released from the same song "Tutti Frutti" By Little Richard. The reason this song was re-released was because a HUGE majority of the people that could spend with extra money in their pockets and still will be able to live comfortably in their expensive armchair by a warm fire were the white families. With this, not a lot of the white families wanted to buy an african american album back in the 1950's, so it was gold to the white artists who re-released the songs. Now this songs compared to the the one made by Little Richard was completely unenthusiastic and it sucked all the spirit dry. Even though it had the same beat and the same lyrics it just wasn't the same since Little Richard was crazy and wild, with his crazy hairstyle.

The third song i choose is "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and His Comets because this one is probably one of my favorites. When i first heard the song i couldn't help but start to dance like how they would have in the 1950's. I couldn't help but have a feeling that this is one of those early rock and roll songs under the development, it had a great guitar solo so that it allowed the people who were listening to do some fancy dance tricks and it made pretty much the whole song, that guitar did.

Lit Response #2
Section A
1. What strikes you about the book? What do you find interesting or significant about the book?
Well what i found interesting in this book is that it has 2 different languages to narrate this book. There is of course english and then the very weird one Nadsat. In the beginning it was hard to understand but when you get farther into the book it is much easier to comprehend and makes the book much more interesting. What strikes me is the fact that the author said in the beginning of the book that he thought this was his worst one. Some of the themes in this book are:
-Police brutality and Violence
-Rape
-Moral Choice
I really do like this book because it's fun trying to find out what the Nadsat words mean and it sometimes has nice twists to the book.
Section B
Some questions i had was when Alex said that he could not be a clockwork orange, why did the scientist stay quiet about it? What do you think was the importance of that dream Alex had when he got drunk?
Big Question:
My big question is when Alex finished his rehabilitation time, was he considered a clockwork orange?
Section C
There many good quotes in this book but the one that stood out to me was this one:
"Goodness comes from within, 6655321. Goodness is something chosen. When a man cannot choose he ceases to be a man." This quote was really interesting because it saying that if a man was forced to choose goodness and not be evil at all the man would no longer be human, which makes him a clockwork orange. Which means that a man is either pure good or pure evil, which of course does not exist in this world.

This link talks about the 2 different types of waer hardnes, which are temporary hardness and permanent hardness. Temporary hardness effects can be boiled away in a open container while permanent hardness needs to have all of it's negative ions taken away. Also talks about how you can make hard water soft.

well we have 4 more days to do this project and we haven't really started on the posterboard so i don't know how we are going to pull it off, especially since we also have to do our final revision on the script. it would probably be best if we had marissa and i working on the water project and emlyn work on final revision and i will translate lupita's interview also...all in a good week...i would love to say this is going to be fun but then there is the stress that beats down those words.
